About CFRA

Welcome!

CFRA is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality track time to its members and their guests. We believe that you should also know the people that you share the track with. To achieve this, CFRA is dedicated to slow growth and a small number of members. CFRA also sponsors occasional social events such as banquets, dinners, wine tours or any other social activity that interests our members.

Participation Options

Open Track

Members can choose just to enjoy driving around the track at unlimited speeds.

Qualifying Competition

Many members choose to compete in the qualifying competition. This compares your best lap time with those of other cars in your class. Points are awarded at each event and the driver with the greatest amount of points receives a trophy at the end of the season. The qualifying competition is available to drivers of all experience levels. An AMB/MyLaps transponder is required to work with the timing system.

Exhibition Racing

Drivers can apply to join the race team, and participate in a non-contact racing championship. Points are awarded and a champion in each class receives a trophy at the end if the season.

Competition Classes

CFRA recognizes that this activity is just for fun. To that end, CFRA has established a car classification structure that is very flexible, doesn't require technical inspections and isn't designed to directly compare one driver's talents against another's.

Cars are classed based on the power to weight ratio of the car as well the tire type. The CFRA competition committee reviews the classes annually in order to try and achieve a sufficient and balanced number of competitors in each class.

Driver Classifications

Drivers with less than 10 days of experience drive in the "B" group, which requires that corner passing only be performed with the acknowledgment of the driver being passed (often referred to as "passing with a point-by" or "point-by passing").

Drivers with more than 10 days experience may drive in the advanced passing group ("A") which allows the driver to pass anytime they feel it is safe to do so. (Note that in group "A", and even group "R", it is common and good practice to use point-bys even though they are not required.) In special circumstances, drivers with less than 10 days of driving experience may run in Group "A" but that requires permission from a Board Member.

Advanced drivers may also practice with the Race Team but are not allowed to participate in the race sessions. They may even request permission to start working on their race license so that they can become a member of the Race Team ("R").

Mentoring

CFRA offers mentors free of charge to all participants on an "as available" basis. Because it can difficult to get a mentor assigned in the final 2 weeks before an event, if a mentor is desired, please make the request well in advance. Mentors can either ride with you or you can choose to ride with them. Please note that a mentor has the right to remove themselves from your car if they feel your driving is not up-to the safety standards of CFRA. At that point you may be asked to leave the event or at the very least have your attitude recalibrated by a CFRA official.

For drivers with less than 5 days of previous track experience, CFRA reserves the right to insist upon having a mentor ride with you until we are reasonably satisfied that you are safe to drive solo.

Safety

Safety is still the most important aspect of CFRA. We are proud of our record and truly believe that your car should leave the track in the same condition that it arrived. To reinforce that commitment, we don't allow cars to participate that have body damage. If you don't cosmetically maintain your car, then we don't want it on the track with us.

Dues

CFRA has annual dues. The dues are used primarily:

  1. To offset any financial loss that may occur at a track event.
  2. To use as track rental deposit money at the start of each season.
  3. To offset the cost of some social events hosted by CFRA.
  4. To hold in a reserve fund in case of unforeseen catastrophic losses.
