About CFRA

Guest Information

If you're a guest at a CFRA event, or would like to be, here's some information that should be useful.

Guest Participation

In order to participate at a CFRA event you must be invited (sponsored) by a current member of CFRA or apply for admission by sending an email request to the Registration Director at registration (at) cfra.net. We are only interested in guests that are seeking CFRA membership and can be a positive addition to the organization.

Becoming a Member

After each event, members are given a chance to speak up if they have an issue with the behavior of any of the guests. For example, if the guest was observed driving in a discourteous, unsafe, or otherwise concerning manner. This is rare, because sponsors usually do a great job of figuring out who they'd like to invite to share the track with. Unless there's an issue, you'll be offered membership, and then you'll become a full CFRA member.

CFRA does not intend for someone to attend more than one event as a guest. Your event as a guest is for you to decide if you want to join as a club member. If you have fun, join and come back for more!

Registration

Your sponsor will generate an invitation email, which contains an activation link for you that's valid for 7 days. When you follow the link, you'll see a form where you can create your account. Enter the information about you and car, choose a password, create your account, and then sign in.

Once you have created your account, you can register for an event. You can do this part at any time.

If you encounter any issues with the activation or registration process, please contact your sponsor or the Registration Director at registration (at) cfra.net. If you have any questions along the way, please ask your sponsor or the point of contact for your invitation. If they don't have the answer, please email CFRA, president (at) cfra.net, and we'll answer your questions.

Participants

This is a non-profit performance driving group. Our emphasis is not on the make or model of car you drive.

Teaching

CFRA is not set up as a driving school. In fact, most events we do not even allow rookie drivers. However, we do offer a free mentor program for those who would like some additional input on their driving. If you would like mentoring, you may register for the program when completing your event registration form. Please note that within the two weeks leading up to the event it may be difficult to find mentors, so please sign up as far in advance as possible. CFRA does reserve the right to require mentors for drivers with less than 4 days previous track experience or anytime we feel that a driver's safety and courtesy may not be up to CFRA standards.

If you would like professional instruction at an event, please drop us a note and we'll work with you to get a professional instructor to attend.

Should a prospective guest be seeking some instruction and track experience before attending a CFRA event, there are a number of organizations that can provide varying levels of performance driving instruction which may be of interest. Please drop us a note and perhaps we can recommend someone.

Dinner

Occasionally we have the opportunity to gather for dinner the evening prior to an event -- most often at Thunderhill for pizza. Sometimes CFRA sponsors the dinner. If you are interested in attending and getting to know a few of our members, we are happy to provide that information to you.

Non-Driving Events

CFRA usually holds one or more non-driving (social) events each year. Guests are welcome to attend these events as well. These events include an Awards Banquet, End of Season Dinner, etc. All scheduled social events can be found on the calendar section of the website.

Car Preparation

If you are new to driving on a race track, please ask a lot of questions. Safety is the most important consideration. The tech form has a full description of the requirements. In addition to the car's preparation, please make sure that you wear long pants, short or long sleeve shirt, and close toed shoes. Check the current tech form for the minimum helmet specifications and other requirements.

Passengers

You are allowed to have a passenger in your car during the event provided they meet the safety requirements. CFRA reserves the right to revoke your passenger privileges if we feel there is a safety concern. If you are a guest and plan to have a passenger, please check with CFRA officials prior to the event.

Car Numbers

Guests are required to have a number on each side of their car that starts with a zero "0". You may choose any single or two digit number to follow the zero. Numbers must be a minimum of 10" tall and a contrasting color. If you use tape, be sure that the number is readable from a distance when the car is at speed. Numbers are how corner workers and staff identify cars, and it's frustrating when the numbers cannot be made out.

Drivers Meeting

Be there! This meeting -- first thing in the morning at the track -- is not optional. Be punctual. The information is important for everyone's safety and a smooth-running event. All drivers must be at this meeting. Being late or missing this meeting will result in CFRA imposing whatever penalty it sees fit, up to and including expulsion from the event.

Hotel

For distant events such as Thunderhill, Laguna Seca, and Buttonwillow, CFRA may have a group hotel with discounted rates. If you need a hotel, please check the web site for further details, or ask your sponsor.
